Easy Days

Not every day in the life of a process server is difficult. Of course, if every day were easy, there process servers would be a dime a dozen, and the pay would reflect that. But for every evasive client, every door slammer, "who's that?", "you can't do that here!", or flat out lie, there's a those jobs that are as hard as picking berries: Corporations that serve as resident agents.

That's right. Many corporations hire other corporations as their resident agents. So Big Inc. can hire Little, Inc. to hold itself out for service of process. This is most common with banks and mortgage companies, especially in our current economic climate where foreclosures abound. These banks are continuously served and need an agent open to receive papers.

The bank will then hire a "service" corporation. Who holds office space and a process server can serve a summons on the bank with the same ease as dropping papers into a box and telling the staffer on duty to "have a nice day". These are the best of days!

Sometimes I'll get a small pile of foreclosures that come down the pike from clients and with those foreclosures often comes service made to banks. When things are busy, a lucky process server can park their car downtown, walk into three or four different buildings and earn a day's worth of wages in 30 minutes. If only every day were like this!
